BASIL RED, Ocimum basilicum red
Annual plant 30 – 40 cm high with aromatic, decorative, dark purple leaves and pink flowers. (20% green leaf plant content is possible). It can also be grown as an ornamental plant, in flower beds, in balcony boxes and in containers. Leaves harvested at the beginning of flowering of plants are used as spices. Fresh can be added to pickling cucumbers, and dried ones to cottage cheese, salads, sauces, casseroles, roasted meats and fish. Sow seeds in boxes under covers in April or May directly into the ground. At the temperature of 20 – 25oC, the emergence takes 7 – 14 days. Plant the seedlings in the second half of May in rows every 30 cm. Likes a sheltered, sunny position.
