– protects trees against damage caused by sudden changes in temperature
– it is also suitable for deacidification of soils for crops that do not tolerate acid reaction

Lime is intended for bleaching the trunks of trees and shrubs in order to avoid the effects of the so-called winter burn. It is also intended for de-acidification of soils for acid-tolerant crops.
֍
Painting trunks with lime is a very important winter procedure in fruit orchards and in the amateur cultivation of fruit trees. When painting, we give trunks and thick branches white, because white reflects sunlight and protects against heating. Excessively heated tree trunks, especially in spring, are given a signal to start vegetation, which, if started prematurely, may cause flower buds to freeze. Painting also prevents frost cracks and scaling wounds caused by sudden temperature drops, which lead to the freezing of excessively hydrated cells.

Liming is a very important treatment on acidic soils, which aims to increase the pH of the substrate to slightly acidic, neutral or alkaline. Lime in the form of an oxide is especially recommended for heavy soils, i.e. clayey and compact. It has properties that improve the structure of the soil – it loosens the compacted soil, creating a lumpy structure that allows water and air to accumulate in the spaces. The oxide form of lime is very quick to act. Calcium is also a very important macronutrient in plant development. It improves the absorption of phosphorus, potassium, magnesium and trace elements. It also has the ability to bind heavy metals harmful to plants from the soil, including cadmium, lead, chromium. Soil liming has a positive effect on the quality of the crops. For example, tomatoes with a calcium deficiency develop a disease – dry top rot.

Application method
Tree whitewashing:
In order to whiten tree trunks, lime is used in the winter season, from December to March. The first lime painting should be done in December. However, if the white layer is washed off, the bleaching should be repeated so that the trees are whitened by March.
֍
For painting the trees, prepare a solution – up to about 1 liter of water, while stirring constantly, gradually sprinkle the lime until a thick solution is obtained.
During the treatment, do not allow lime or its solution to get into the eyes.
Liming (deacidification) of soils:
֍
Use lime on acidic soils that require preparation for cultivation of plants requiring a higher pH (slightly acidic, neutral or alkaline). Before starting liming, it is good to measure the pH of the soil with a special acid meter.
֍
In order to deacidify the soil, lime should be applied every 2-3 years.
The best time to use lime is autumn – after the end of vegetation, but it can also be used in early spring – before the beginning of vegetation.
Fall fertilization or fertilization with nitrogen-containing fertilizers should not be combined with liming. The interval between fertilization and liming should depend on the duration of action of the fertilizer used.
֍
One 1.2 kg package is sufficient for an application of about 15 m2.
֍
The treatment is best carried out on moist soil in windless weather, because the lime is in the form of a powder. When sprinkling lime in the early spring, mix the lime with the soil as much as possible. When using, wear protective gloves and protect your eyes.
