BASIL GREEN, Ocimum basilicum green
Annual plant about 50 cm tall. Leaves collected during flowering of plants are used as spices. Fresh can be added to pickling cucumbers, and dried ones to cottage cheese, salads, sauces, casseroles, roasted meats and fish. They are widely used in Mediterranean cuisine, e.g. as an ingredient in pesto or as a component of salads and tomato dishes. Use in small amounts due to the strong odor. It facilitates digestion. Drinking an infusion of the leaves soothes cough, it is also recommended for inflammation of the urinary tract. Sow the seeds in boxes in early April or in May directly to a permanent place. In the temperature of 20-25 ° C, the emergence takes 7-14 days. Plant the seedlings in the second half of May (when the fear of frost is over) – in rows every 30 cm. Likes a sheltered, sunny position.
