MEET THE PEST
Clothing moths are tiny butterflies. Their wingspan is 12-16 mm and their body length is 8 to 12 mm, they fly weakly and reluctantly, avoid light. They get to our homes from neighboring buildings through open windows and doors, as well as from abandoned bird nests. An adult moth does not eat. During its lifetime, it uses the supplies accumulated by the larvae, which are very voracious.
The caterpillars of the fur moth (sheepskin moth) feed in wool and woolen products, in felt, in upholstered furniture, in furs and feathers. In homes, the hair moth (clothes moth) can be damaged by woolen carpets and rugs, upholstery of upholstered furniture and clothing when it is stored in quiet places for a long time.
Clothing moths (Tineola bisselliella)
When looking for food, moth larvae choose places in woolen products or in skins that are soiled with fruit juices or human sweat and urine, because they need nitrogen compounds and vitamin B to grow and develop. The moth larvae do not digest plant products such as cotton or linen. but they can destroy them if they are contaminated with urine or sweat.
Heavy moth-damaged products are clumped with silky tubes and contaminated with tiny, hard feces that are mistaken for eggs. The eggs of the moths are very fine, transparent and delicate, so they are difficult to see.
